Wow, what a great show we had! The quality has improved. with 13 master division mounts, the showroom looked
like a museum. Also the quality of the Judges we had was awesome. I heard we had some great seminars, but I
was busy working the show along with the other officials, and board members. The most touching and heart
warming experience I have ever had, besides the birth of my child, happened on Saturday night after the banquet
dinner. For those of you that were there, you already know what I am talking about. The little boy Named John
Tyler Dike received a bear skin rug. John is 10 years old and has MS. He got to go on a hunt in Wi. and shoot a
bear. John is in a wheel chair and had a gun rigged up to a straw that you blow through to make the gun shoot.
There were many people involved in the hunt and getting the bear rug mounted. When they presented Little John
with the rug......well, it was a spiritual experience, it seemed like a presence of God was in the room at that
moment. John started hugging and kissing the bear and telling the bear skin rug "I Love You". There wasn't a dry
eye in the house. John also got to pick his favorite mount in the show room. Little John just happened to pick Big
John Griffiths coyote mount. Big John Received the "John Tyler Award." If you happen to go to Taxidermy.net look
under the "Taxidermy Industry," and the look for the post "The greatest award I ever won, by John Griffith" This
will go into more detail about the organization that made all this possible for this young man. Bridget O'Donahue is
from the USSA (United Special Sportsman Alliance) She put on a great presentation about special hunts for
special needs children, and wounded veterans. I am happy to say we will be working with her in the future, and
hope to mount and present another child with an animal they were fortunate enough to harvest. Bridget told me
she is looking for individual taxidermists that would be willing to mentor a child on a hunting trip, or a fishing trip,
we will have more information about the USSA later in the newsletter.
I would like to thank all the officials, and board members for pulling off a great convention. I would especially like
to thank Ben and Matt Maddox for there extra hard work, taking pictures of the mounts and putting on a slide
show at the awards ceremony. This was a phenomenal task to organize. This really was a great addition to the
show.
We need members to put work aside on September 18th and support the KTA, and show up at Gerry
Whethington's shop. Your suggestions and comments are very important to us.
Our Vice President Wade Calvert will go into more detail on this.
For those that were at the show Thank You for your attendance, for those that wasn't there.....You sure missed a
good one!

Hello to everyone,

I hope everyone was able to make it to our convention in Lexington. There were so many great mounts. The
judges definitely had their hands full this year. Next years convention is already in the works so start planning now.

We have a meeting coming up in just a couple of weeks. I know it takes a day away from the shop and the family
but it is just a couple of times per year. We have several things to discuss and your opinion matters.  We also
have several door prizes to be given away. I believe we have a couple of whitetail forms and some waterfowl
complete kits. I hope to see you all at the meeting.

We again want to thank Gerry Wethington for opening up his shop and home for all of us to invade. I am sure the
seminar will be well worth your time as well.  Bring a dish and come on down to Columbia. It is always a great time
and a great learning experience.

From: United Special Sportsman Alliance
All of us from the USSA are sincerely grateful for the tremendous response we received from the Kentucky
Taxidermist Association, Inc. It was an honor for me to have the opportunity to speak at the convention, and it was
a deeply moving experience for me, John Tyler and his mother who received the bear mount that evening.

We serve thousands of children and people with serious health issues, and none of it would be possible without
the support of the taxidermists who donate their time and services. Our charity grows substantially each year, and
we are constantly in need of the type of support that the Kentucky Taxidermist Association, Inc. has provided to
us.
We are an all volunteer charity, and we look forward to working with the taxidermists in providing more
opportunities for these special kids and their families as we grow each year. The involvement of so many caring
people is critical in not only bringing happiness and excitement to those who would otherwise not have the
chance, but also to keeping the focus on management through traditional hunting. An unforgettable experience
from just one child can move thousands of hearts, and that is what our effort is all about.  God bless you.

Sincerely,
Brigid O'Donoghue,
CEO and Founder
United Special Sportsman Alliance,

More on Brigid …She is pretty amazing
John Trout Jr.  did an article in Deer and Deer Hunting Magazine in 2004 bashing high fenced hunts and had a
picture of a monster buck with a guy wearing orange in the back ground with the big buck and a high fence in the
same pic.
Bridget told Tony that bothered her enough, that when she was in his area she stopped by his house. he wasn't
home, but saw a high fence that came into the guys yard. Standing behind the fence was the same deer that the
guy had in his article, this was a pet deer, she said she got out the camera, and started taking pics.
She then called and told D&DH mag, and told them their article was total BS and she wanted a retraction made,
They told her no, then she told them, if not she would go to field and stream mag. and tell them what she found
out.
Bridget said D&DH called her after the article, and told her this was one of the highest selling copies that d&dh
ever sold.

(copied from Taxi.net)

This past weekend my wife and I went to the Kentucky Taxidermist Association annual competition in Lexington,
Kentucky.  I am someone of little notoriety in taxidermy but what was developing I had no inkling.   As things
progressed throughout the awards ceremony they had a young man there that had killed a black bear in
Wisconsin and was going to award him with his black bear rug.  All of these had been sponsored through a
special foundation that I believe the ladies name was Bridgett.  Sorry, but I didn't get the sponsor.  Anyway, from
my understanding quite a few taxidermist had put this black bear together and this weekend was going to be a
surprise presentation for this little boy in receiving his mounted rug at the KTA award ceremonies.

Well, let me introduce you to this young 10 year old boy by the name of John Tyler Dike from Barlow, Kentucky
was is dying of terminal cancer and probably won't live past this Xmas.  When the KTA officials presented this
black bear rug to John Tyler the entire crowd fell to there knees in such sadness and joy for this young man.  I
mean to tell you it was unbelievable for my wife and I.

OK, now I didn't realize it at the time but the KTA Officials had told John Tyler that they were going to present an
award in his name and for him to go through all the mounts that were there and to select the one that he thought
was the Best.  Well, he was being escorted in a wheelchair throughout the competition room looking to see which
mount he thought was the BEST.  His family and friends thought that he would choose a bear mount because he
had killed a black bear in Wisconsin this past year.  Well, that wasn't the case.  When it came time for
presentation of the John Tyler award it was stated that now it's time for John Tyler award

Presentation for a Coyote full body mounts by John Griffith.  I was overwhelmed and absolutely CRIED and when
that little boy presented me with that award I was totally flabbergasted and shaking in my shoes.  I am shaking
now as I write this.  Anyway, all I can say is that when you touch someone’s heart like I did that meant more to me
that any RIBBON I have ever won.  So, God Bless JOHN TYLER GIKE and his family.  They sure did know how to
bring me down to below my KNEES......  All this was very GOOD.....

Oh, now I can say Thanks to Chris Barnhardt for judging my Coyote in the Master's Div; Yeah, I only got a second
place but did I ever get a FIRST PLACE from that 10 year old boy who is dying.....   End of my weekend and below
is a photo of John Tyler Gike

This was one of the BEST competitions I had been to in a while and One I will never forget.

Best,
John Griffith

“Lawyer”

At the last meeting it was suggested that the KTA acquire legal advice pertaining to “What are our rights if
KDFWR law enforcement visits our shops and/or homes”.

Below are a few questions that have been suggested to research so far.

CWD Issue update      email to KDFWR    8/17/2010

Dear Gabe

I am writing this email to follow up on the status of the CWD talks we had with the Dept in May and the follow up
with the Commission's Wildlife Committee meeting held in July. It was the hope of the KTA that the dept would be
more open to the proposals we presented but it seems that the Dept is not as ready as we thought to implement a
plan that would benefit KY’s deer herd and all that depend upon it.

We were disappointed to see language and hear the innuendos that infer that the KTA’s only concern is about
the business we are and will potentially loose and that we are a part of the problem vs a part of the solution.

Business revenues are a real concern for us and likely for many branches of our government, we didn’t try to hide
that concern in our proposal and know full and well that CWD could also be a substantial problem for our
business. Thus our greatest concern is the effects CWD will have on Hunter participation WHEN CWD reaches or
is detected in KY.

We believed our proposal would help make KY "ready and able" to handle CWD when it reaches our state. The
KTA took an active roll in garnering support from all of the affected civilian organizations shortly after our initial
meeting as these were stated to be obstacles. However after the Commission Committee meeting we feel that the
dept did little to address the internal issues and isn’t ready to address the situation with the same diligence.

Thus the membership decided at our most recent meeting to not allocate our resources and to wait for the
KDFWR to move this project forward before we spend more of our time on it.

We still remain positive and are willing to be involved in the formation of a solution and or to participate in its
implementation provided it is a workable comprehensive plan that we believe is in the best interest of the
resource, the sportsmen and our industry.

Sincerely
On behalf of the KTA

Probation, fine likely for taxidermist
Michigan company that provides taxidermy services will be sentenced in November after recently pleading guilty
to possessing dead animals listed as international endangered species Under a plea deal with federal
prosecutors, The Wildlife Gallery also acknowledged that it failed to file certain documents with the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service. The Wildlife Gallery has Michigan locations in Blanchard, St. Louis, Indian River and Gladwin.
Court filings show it probably will be placed on probation and ordered to pay at least a $10,000 fine when
sentenced Nov. 22 in federal court in Bay City. Under the agreement, gallery president Bradley Eldred will not be
prosecuted if the company follows the sentence and stays out of trouble during probation.

Take Action Now! Protect your right to fish.

September 2, 2010
Dear Cabela's Customer:
Occasionally, an issue of such importance arises we feel it necessary to contact our loyal customers. With our
fishing rights at stake, this is such an issue.
On August 23, 2010, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency was petitioned by the Center for Biological
Diversity and others to ban lead from ammunition and fishing tackle, including sinkers, jigs, weighted fly lines and
components containing lead, such as brass and ballast in lures, spinners, stick baits and other fishing products.
On August 27, the EPA denied the petition regarding ammunition, but let stand the petition to ban lead in fishing
tackle and has opened a short period for taking public comment.
Such a ban would cause prices of fishing products to skyrocket. Alternative metals can cost from six to 15 times
more than lead, and most do not perform as well. For many, fishing would no longer be the affordable sport it is
now.
Please join Cabela's and Keep America Fishing in opposing this ban by submitting your comments to the EPA no
later than September 15, 2010..
Cabela's is working in conjunction with the American Sportfishing Association and Keep America Fishing to
protect our tradition and heritage of fishing.
Thank you for your help.
Sincerely,

Milwaukee County Executive and Republican candidate for governor Scott Walker on Thursday called for an
independent auditor to monitor Wisconsin's whitetail population, saying many hunters have lost faith in how the
Department of Natural Resources manages the herd. Walker, who said he has been hunting for three or four
years and has not killed a deer, also pledged to "put more deer in the forest." Journal-Sentinel All Politics Blog.

The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Department this week announced plans to re-establish the alligator gar to lowland
rivers and streams in the western portion of the state, where the species has been absent since the 1970s. The
angency's ultimate goal is to develop a self-sustaining, natural population of gator gar that can provide the
opportunity for a recreational sport fishery. KF&W.

The Green Party is to introduce a hunting ban Bill in the Northern Ireland Assembly, it was revealed today.Fox
and stag hunting and hare coursing could be ended under the plans, which will be unveiled in a consultation
document to be launched on Wednesday.Thousands of people showed up to protest outside the Green Party’s
national convention in Waterford at the weekend after the Minister for the Environment, John Gormley, introduced
legislation to restrict the blood sport.Green Party Northern Ireland Assembly member Brian Wilson said:
“Legislation banning the hunting of wild mammals with dogs already exists in England and Wales and Scotland, so
this Bill, which I hope to introduce to the Assembly before recess, will bring Northern Ireland into line with the rest
of the UK and end fox and stag hunting and hare coursing.”A group called Rural Ireland Says Enough (Rise)
opposes Mr Gormley’s plan to ban the Ward Union Stag hunt in counties Meath and Dublin.Up to 5,000 people -
led by six riders on horseback - turned out to protest in Waterford on Saturday.A constitutional challenge to the
controversial 2004 Hunting Act has already been dismissed by the courts. The law prohibits fox hunting, deer
hunting and hare coursing with dogs in England and Wales. The legislation polarised rural and urban Britain and
prompted impassioned demonstrations by both sides of the debate.

On Friday, April 2 at 9:00 a.m. the Clarke County Planning Commission will consider amending the County Zoning
ordinance in a way that will be detrimental to hunters and others who own and use dogs. At the request of animal
“rights” extremists, references to dogs and cats will be changed to “companion animals” and the ownership of five
or more adult companion animals will require a Business License.  This sort of proposed ordinance affects
average families and hunters who are responsible pet owners and advances the Humane Society of the United
States’ radical agenda of ending pet ownership and hunting.

Several top Ohio wildlife officials, including Wildlife Division Chief David Graham, have been named in an

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The sign on the storefront said "Craig's Taxidermy," and the hunters who brought in
their prized deer, turkey and fish got them back stuffed and mounted. But they also got secretly recorded. And
ultimately, many of them were busted for allegedly breaking Missouri wildlife laws. The Department of
Conservation announced Monday that it had discovered 425 wildlife violations committed by 68 people who
brought animals into Craig's Taxidermy in the rural southern Missouri town of Birch Tree.It turns out "Craig"
actually was an undercover agent. The state Conservation Department set up the undercover taxidermy shop in
2008 after receiving numerous complaints about illegal hunting in the area, said Gary Cravens, the department's
regional supervisor for law enforcement operations. The state agency closed Craig's Taxidermy early this year —
but only after its hidden video and audio recorders captured plenty of evidence. As customers came into the shop,
"we were listening to them," Cravens said. "They were bragging about how they shot out of so-and-so's yard or
off the road, or claiming it as archery even though it had a bullet hole."As it turned out, 62 percent of the wildlife
brought in for mounting at the undercover taxidermy shop had been killed illegally in some manner, Cravens said.
The cases are being turned over to prosecutors in seven counties — Crawford, Dent, Miller, Howell, Iron, Oregon
and Shannon — where the hunting occurred, the department said. Although the taxidermy shop was in southern
Missouri, some hunters brought animals from other parts of the state. The alleged violations involved deer, turkey,
various animals hunted for their fur, fish and migratory birds. Conservation agents seized 240 items, including 90
mounted deer heads or antler racks, about 20 various smaller animals, 70 frog legs, one rattlesnake and 16
firearms."These violators are in effect stealing wildlife that belongs to all of us here in Missouri who obey the
laws," Cravens said, "and it's our job to make sure that wildlife resources are protected."
